St. Paddy's Day

With names such as Ryan, Gilmartin, Murphy, and Fitzgerald in my family tree, it is pretty evident that I am Irish.  Every year at this time, I feel my heart swell with pride for this wonderful heritage.

My Dad is named John Michael Patrick Ryan, and he surprised me with a shamrock plant this year.  I have always wanted one, but just never thought of buying myself one. I hope I can keep it alive; I don't have a natural green thumb (despite my "green" Irish roots!).

I woke up early today because my daughters had a 9:30 appointment to try on bridesmaid dresses at David's Bridal.  In September, their brother is getting married!

But, I am getting ahead of myself.  While I was still lazing in bed before dawn, I found an old Irish themed movie on TV called "Peg O' Me Heart".  It was made in 1933!  I was quickly swept up in the plot, only to realize I had to get moving!  So, I dragged myself out of bed for a cup of coffee, and to find something green to wear.

Downstairs, my smiling husband approached me with goodies in his hands-- a bag of Andes Mints and a cute St. Patrick's Day card.  My day was off to a GREAT start!  I really love surprises.

Once at the bridal shop, Maria, Therese, and I met my future daughter in law and the rest of the bridesmaids.  It was fun watching them try on dresses, and finally settling on the ones they liked.  I must say, these young women all looked so pretty and elegant in their gowns.  I am so excited for this wedding!

After the dresses were ordered and paid for, the whole gang of us paid a visit to one of my favorite destinations--Ulta.  We did a little shopping, and I found something amazing.

I discovered a product called Pacifica French Lilac Perfume.  I bought myself the roll on perfume, so I could throw it in my purse.  It smells just like fresh lilacs, which is one of the most heavenly scents I've ever smelled!  Little things make me so happy.

Today's dinner was traditional Irish American food--cabbage, potatoes, ham, and corned beef.  I'm not a beer drinker, so iced tea was my drink of choice.  I even made cherry and apple turnovers for dessert, even though they have nothing to do with Irish cuisine!

This evening, John and I went to visit my elderly aunt at the nursing home, where we played Irish tunes for her.  It's always a blessing to visit her, and I thank God she is still with us at the age of 96!

St. Patrick's Day, 2018, was a good one, especially because we didn't have the usual Pennsylvania St. Paddy's Day blizzard.  The only thing that could have made this day better would be if we had found a leprechaun's pot of gold!
